If you want to display or hide xconsole while running an xdm session, then:
1. look for Xsetup_0 file in your system
2. Find this line (or similar to this from NetBSD), and comment/uncomment regarding your needs:
xconsole -geometry 480x130-0-0 -daemon -notify -verbose -fn fixed -exitOnFail
